Slacking

Slacking

It’s interesting that I was able to squeeze in time to write on this blog while on my trip… yet since I’ve been home… I’ve totally been slacking. I posted a bunch of pictures below to make up for my laziness.

The photographer was Erik Borzi. The makeup and styling was done by Andrea Whitten. We went outside of LA and shot in Lancaster… the same location of the church scene from Kill Bill! It was such a unique location!

As always, I’d love to hear your feedback!

For your viewing pleasure…

For your viewing pleasure…

As most of you know, I am HOME! I’ve decided to wait to write about St. Croix until I am able to load the pictures… so in the meantime, here are some pictures from one of the shoots I did in LA.

The photographer was Matt Haines. For his information, click here: Matt Haines Photography. He was fun to work with, and conducted a very professional shoot.

**Special thanks to Suzanne Sease for setting this shoot (as well as the other shoot I did in LA) up. If any photographers are looking at this, I highly recommend contacting her; she is a photographer consultant. The feedback I have gotten from the photographers that have utilized her services have ALL been very positive.**

Let me know what you think of the pictures!

PS- The first three are the only ones that have been edited.

The last days in Hermosa were spent doing quite a bit of exploring. While cruising on bikes, Veronica and I went all over the neighboring beaches/towns. It was so much fun to just go out and about without an agenda.

Cruisin!

We biked past the 90210 house. The homes along the strand were really cool to look at… the architecture is so unique!

Manhattan Beach had tons of awesome stores to shop in. I did the most damage in this swim/beach shop called Diane’s. Bright sundresses, every style/shape/color bikini you could imagine, flip flops galore, and great customer service- it was a blast! Veronica fell in love with a store that sold designer shoes, and gourmet chocolates.

I had another photo shoot; this shoot was a full day (12 hours). The location was two hours away, at Lancaster, CA. The terrain was desert like: dry, dusty, and tumbleweeds rolled freely. The church from the movie Kill Bill was one of the specific locations. It was an incredible team effort between the photographer, the stylist, and myself. I got a sneak preview of some of the images, they are killer! I’ll post some when they are finished.

On one of the nights Veronica and I decided to cook a huge spread of food for Debo, Richard, Louis, and Derek (Richie had to work). Seeing as though neither Veronica nor I knew the first thing about cooking, or where the grocery store was, or what to even make… we were off to a comical start. We ended up cooking like Podgurski’s (meaning, making enough food for a small country), grilling chicken, peppers, mushrooms, squash, onions, shrimp, asparagus, etc. Nobody went to bed with an empty stomach that night!

Right around the corner from where we stayed, was a frozen yogurt shop called Lotus; Veronica and I fell in love with this place (and we were “regulars,” while we were in LA). I’ve decided that I am going to enter Veronica in ice-cream eating contests, because this girl is out of control! I have never in my life seen someone attack ice-cream the way she did… and she made it look so effortless!

We ended our stay in Hermosa by getting mani/pedis at this place called Mani Pedi Cutie. It was easily the best mani/pedi place I’ve been to. The service was skillful, and friendly. Plenty of wine and snacks were offered. I opted for hot pink fingers, and mint green toes. The last supper was fish tacos, cooked by Debo. I lucked out with Uncle Nick (aka “Ace”) and Aunt Sheila stopping by to hang out before I left. The sunset on the last night was breathtaking.

Chicago!

Chicago!

I can sum up Chicago in one sentence: Chicago is the cleaner, friendlier, easier to get around version of New York. And needless to say, I loved it!

From the airport, we went on the subway, and as we were leaving (the subway), we ran into quite the obstacle: a HUGE FLIGHT OF STAIRS. I put up a valiant effort, trying to heave my 48.5 lb. bag up the stairs, and as I was almost falling a random guy grabbed the suitcase, and hauled it up for me. First impression of Chicago- the people are so nice!

We met up with a UGA friend of Veronica’s, LJ. He was so sweet, and it was fun getting to stay with him and his roomie, Ryan. We put our bags down (ok, so we pretty much dropped them/threw them down because they are so heavy), and then hopped in the car and got an amazing tour from LJ as we drove “the loop.” LJ was a fantastic guide, giving us the inside scoop of Chi-Town.

Shortly after our car ride, our stomachs were growling. Pizza time! Chicago Style. We picked up a cheese pizza from Giordano’s. This was an experience in itself. The pizza was just shy of two inches thick. Two pieces later, I felt like I was 9 months pregnant with twins. It was the stomach coma of a lifetime, and it was totally worth it! I loved having the tomato sauce on top, but I think I still prefer NY style (super thin).

Day 2

After a good nights sleep, Veronica and I venture off on our own. The subway system in Chicago is much easier than some of the other cities we’ve visited. First thing we took care of was our appetites… we went to Potbelly’s, a little sandwich shop. I had one of the best cookies of my life there (Oatmeal Chocolate Chip); it was perfectly undercooked, just the way I love it! The live music was fun to listen to as we chowwed down.

Then we walked over to The Field Museum. It is known for Sue, the largest and most completed T-rex; Veronica and I learned SO much about her! It was also having a PIRATE EXHIBITION- ARRRRRGHHHH!! The pirate exhibition was incredible, it was like walking through a story. We got to touch REAL pirate treasure! Most of the day was spent at the museum. It was the best (non-art) museum I’ve ever been to. The information was easy to read, and they made a point to make what you read interesting! The layout of the museum was also very creative.

Sue's 600 lb. head is too heavy to be on the main display.

Ahoy matey!!

Ahoy matey!!

Wanting fresh air, we strolled through Millennium Park, and walked by Buckingham Fountain. Our ears were treated to live music blasting in the amphitheater. Absolutely beautiful. At a glance, you can tell that the people of Chicago truly care about their city, and take pride keeping it clean. I loved that!

For dinner, we had one of my favorite foods: HOT DOGS!!! I asked for a “Chicago hotdog.” On it was: mustard, pickle spears, relish, peppers, Read the rest of this entry

New York City

New York City

Sorry for such a delay everyone… time and internet access has been limited. But alas! Here you go!

Finally, we arrive in New York City! Immediately, we were greeted with taxis honking, too many people, cigarette smoke, and jack hammers attacking concrete.  Our temporary home was at Steven’s (Veronica’s high school friend) place on 39th/5th. It was adjacent to the Empire State Building.

Day One

Having flown from Seattle, the first night we were both pretty zonked and disoriented. But despite our exhaustion, we decided we were going to have REAL pizza for a late dinner. Originally we were going to eat at this one place, but a cooky crack head warned us of the cockroaches, and rats in the restaurant. So, we kept walking. We ended up at this little shop not too far away, and ordered a gigantic pie of cheesy goodness. We spent the rest of the night on the rooftop of Steven’s apartment hanging out, eating pizza, and just talking about the places we’ve been on this journey, and how lucky we are to have gotten to experience as much as we have already.

Day 2

The next began with pizza. A perfect way to start the day, if you ask me! Then we hit the streets, going into all kinds of fun stores, one of them being Saks Fifth Avenue, on 5th Avenue. Veronica and I explored all NINE floors of the latest high end fashions. I saw a ton of leggings, with long shirts, with even longer vests on top of them, and then complimented with heels. Lots of darker colors especially the colors black, and slate (translation for boys reading this… slate=dark grey).

Then we kept walking and made it to one of my childhood favorites… FAO Schwartz. The store was filled with stuffed animals, larger than life Lego characters, dolls, games, and one bad to the bone candy store. My dentist will be getting an incredible raise in his salary because Veronica and I left with over forty dollars worth of candy! Yes, we ate it all.

Happiness

Happiness

After eating our body weight in gummy bears, we walked all around Central Park. I remember my parents taking my siblings and I as kids. It was fun to see that NYC has done such a nice job keeping that park in beautiful condition, and that so many people were still enjoying the park.

A few miles later we ended up at The American Museum of Natural History. The last time I had been there, my dad had taken me when I was about 10 years old. My dad and I went to see the (at the time) main attraction: the dinosaur exhibit. When Veronica and I made it to that part of AMNH, it was even better than I remembered it. I couldn’t take enough pictures. The Brontosaurus was gigantic! We meandered around several other parts of the museum, and looked at artwork, artifacts, etc. It is impossible to leave a place like that without your brain going a million miles per hour.

As we walked back towards Steven’s apt we went into the Apple store. Holy cow. It was like being at Macy’s at 6am on Black Friday. Tons of people were packed in this geeky-chic store to play with all of the Apple paraphernalia you could dream of.

We continued walking down 5th, and a little something caught our eye. A sparkle. We proceeded to walk through the large doors of Tiffany’s. I found a potential engagement ring; it was a modest $71,000. Considering Veronica fell in love with one that was $115,000, I thought I did pretty good. Mom would have been proud!

The paparazzi was out that day taking pictures outside of Tommy Hilfiger… some famous blonde chick was surrounded by what looked like the linebackers from the Packers. I got a picture of the back of her head. Cool?

Blonde Celeb

Blonde Celeb

We made it back to Steven’s and decided to take a cat nap before we went back out. Well, we totally lost that battle, and we didn’t wake up until the next day! Don’t worry… we more than made up for it.

 Day 3

Figuring that we needed proper nourishment for our plans that day, we kicked off the day with pizza. Then we headed out in our sneakers, “I <3 NY” tees, and our infamous neon sunglasses… we wore our tourist outfits with pride. We made it to Staten Island with every intention of climbing to the crown of the Statue of Liberty… our plans were abruptly changed when we were told that they were booked until January. FAIL.

Our next destination was chilling. We went to Ground Zero. The construction workers were out still working on the foundation of what will be a bigger, and better structure than before.  I still can’t believe 9/11 was 8 years ago. There were countless American flags waving through the air in that area. Being right there brought out a such a strong sense of pride I have for America, and what this country stands for.

Ground Zero

Ground Zero

The walking around we had done revved up our appetites so we pop into a bagel shop. Oh lord, do I love a good bagel. It was delicious. The north has much better bagels.

Once we were refueled, we headed over to Seaport. It was a really fun area with shops, exhibits, and music. We grabbed some discounted tickets for a Broadway show at TKTS, and then made our way through China Town to get to Little Italy.

After getting lost in China, we finally made it to Italy! And by golly, they were having a huge festival because Veronica and I were in town! Ok. Maybe not. But there was a festival! It was the San Gennaro Festival. Great food lined Mulberry Street which was completely blocked off. I texted my dad immediately and asked him if he could recommend a place for Veronica and I to eat… he said to find the restaurant with cars with tinted windows in the front, to ensure that we would be served by the mafia. So we did. We ate at Amici II… it was amazing. Because Veronica and I are ladies, we got to eat inside of the restaurant in the air conditioning. My meal consisted of prosciutto and melon, and gnocchi al pesto. Our server, Gino was a charismatic flirt, calling us “bellas,” and blowing us kisses. After lunch we grabbed some gelato from another vender… YUM. It’s a funny thing to fall in love with a country you’ve never been to.

Delish!

Delish!

After stuffing ourselves silly (noticing the trend, eh?), we went to Broadway and saw Phantom of the Opera. What a performance! The singing ability was outrageously great. Having the live music made the show feel like a concert at some parts- heck yea! The set was mind blowing… it was so complex, and every inch of the stage was used appropriately. I loved it!

On our way to see Phantom!

On our way to see Phantom!

Later that night we went out with Steven started off at the Village Tavern, a crammed bar with hockey games on TVs larger than refrigerators. After that we went to Naked Lunch. It was a trendy setting, the DJ played current hits that people could dance to (if they could find room to that is). A couple of really friendly Italian looking guys started talking to me. I noticed they were dressed in sharp looking suits, and that there were TONS of them scattered about, inside and outside the bar. It was the mafia (other events occurred that proved this, but it wasn’t appropriate enough to post online, sorry!).  They fell in love with me, and bought me drinks the entire night. Thanks Mikey, Larry, and Eric!

I also met another one of Veronica’s friends, Simba. He was such a blast, a life-of-the-party personality. Good times, great people.

On our way home we decided to get some McDonald’s. I ordered about 10 burgers. Oh the logic we lack after having cocktails!

Day 4

Due to the long night of partying we did before, we had a little bit of a late start. But we met one of Veronica’s friends, Charles, at this Mexican place called Dos Cominos, for some good ol’ hangover grub! After our Mexican feast, we walked around getting quite the tour from Charles.

Leading the way, Charles to us to Rockefeller. We rode the elevator to the very top to be treated to a spectacular view of the city. Unlike being on the streets of the city, it was so peaceful up there. I overhead one guy talk about how he often goes up “the rock,” when he is in need of some quiet time.

On top of THE ROCK!

On top of THE ROCK!

We strolled into St. Patrick’s Catherdral. It was the most magnificent church I have ever been in. Wow!

St. Patrick's

After getting our scenic fill we went to The Museum of Modern Art (aka MOMA). The main exhibit was Monet’s “Water Lilies.” The museum was enormous, and was filled with incredible art. There were paintings, sculptures, sound clips, etc. I left feeling more excited than ever to pick up my brushes again, once I get home.

Love it!

Love it!

Back to the apartment we went to do some primping, and then out to The Grey Dog. There we ate phenomenal sandwiches (mine was brie, turkey, lettuce, tomato, raspberry mustard), and cookies the size of plates. Funky coffee music filled our ears. It was very “Dana.”

HUGE cookies!

HUGE cookies!

From Grey Dogs, we went to the “Athens Bar,” Firefly. For those of you who don’t know… Veronica went to the University of Georgia, and she follows their football team religiously. This bar is where every fan of UGA turns up to watch the game. I loved being a “dawg,” for the night! The school spirit was fantastic. I still don’t “get” football, but I had fun screaming when everyone else did!

Hope you bet the dawgs would win- b/c they did! Whoo Hoo!

Hope you bet the dawgs would win- b/c they did! Whoo Hoo!

We intended on getting back to the apartment after the game… but we were easily persuaded to stay out. So we (Me, Veronica, Charles, and Simba) went to this dance club. Every freak of nature in the city had showed up! There was a flamboyant guy there who danced EVERY step to Beyonce’s “Single Lady.” He also spun on his head for 10 minutes. He could break it down! There was a girl who was at least 5’11 with a MASCOT HEAD (of a dog) on her head. On top of that… she was dancing with a really short guy. When she tried to make out with the guy with the mascot head on, we decided to leave.

I wasn't making it up.

I wasn't making it up.

Charles then took us to this quirky, underground bar, Home Sweet Home. The entire night the DJ played fun, old music like “Wully Bully, I Would Walk 500 Miles, Shake that Booty, etc.” The four of us danced our tails off until the bar closed at 4am. It was one of the best nights of my life. It was so fun to be nutty and let loose on the dance floor. We got back to the apartment, and then took a half hour power nap, and then we were off for our early flight to Buffalo!

 Day 5- BUFFALO

We were picked up from the airport by Mr. and Mrs. Rosner, Veronica’s “younger sister’s” grandparents from the Miss America Organization. They are proud Buffalo residents, and one of the cutest couples I’ve ever met. They were waiting for us with a welcome sign, and these crafty roses (state flower!). On top of that, Mr. Rosner is an avid photographer, and documented every adventure we went on in B-Lo!

The first Buffalo experience we were treated to was a hot dog from Ted’s! Hot dogs are one of my favorite foods, so needless to say, I was pumped! I had a 100% Beef hot dog with mustard, relish, and pickles… it was so yummy! For desert, we went next door to Anderson’s… I had fresh vanilla custard with rainbow sprinkles. Mmm!

Yummmmm

Yummmmm

We hop back in the minivan and we head over to Niagara. As we drive towards the waterfalls, we see smoke leaking into the sky. The “smoke,” was actually “spray” from the waterfalls! We got to Niagara, and Veronica and I practically sprint out of the van because we were so excited to see the waterfalls. We stopped dead in our tracks, and our jaws hit the ground when we saw them. It was one of the most breathtaking sites I’ve ever seen. The falls were so wide, loud, and powerful! It was easy to see why Niagara is one of the seven wonders of the world.

niag

After taking 1234789247892357283947923 pictures of the waterfalls, we decided to go on the Maid of the Mist. This was a boat that took you very close to the waterfalls, giving you an up close and personal view from the bottom. As we got closer and closer, the “mist,” turned into more of a torrential downpour… the so called “mist” was coming down so hard and fast you couldn’t even see! Although we had ponchos, we were soaked by the time the 20 minute boat ride was done! But the water felt great on the 75 degree-not a cloud in the sky-day!

After we cooled off in the mist, we decided to experience the Cave of the Winds. We were given a poncho, goofy light-weight sandals, and plastic bags to keep our sneakers/purses dry. We put on our gear, and walked the path that brought us up the side of the waterfall. The waterfall splashed all over the path, soaking us! Then it got really crazy when water flew over the “hurricane deck.”

To take a break from the water, we walked over to Canada and walked through Clifton Hill. (PS-It was the first time I got to really use my passport- YAY!) It was like walking through a really awesome carnival: candy shops, fun restaurants, putt-putt, a celebrity wax museum, Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, etc.

On our way out we took a stop to look at the waterfalls from the Canadian point of view… there you could “face” the waterfalls.

All of that walking worked up our appetites, so we went out for BUFFALO wings for dinner number one. We went where it all started, Frank and Teresa’s Anchor Bar. We ordered mild wings with a side of hot sauce. I am not a huge fan of spicy food (Arby’s BBQ sauce makes my eyes water)… but I decided to be brave and to try the hot sauce, and so I carefully dipped a small amount of hot sauce on a wing. I couldn’t taste it. I tried again, this time with more hot sauce… again, I STILL couldn’t taste it. I finally ended up basically marinating my wings in the hot sauce, and I LOVED them. It was a monumental event for me… the first spicy food I have ever enjoyed. Yes! My taste buds are finally evolving!

Giving our stomachs a chance to digest, we went over to this park that overlooked the Eerie Canal Basin. The sunset was picture perfect, and the silhouettes of the boats, and the lighthouse made the sky look even brighter. The park itself had flowers, gardens, places to picnic and hang out. One of the cool things there were the giant sculptures, each made out of a tree over 100 years old! Before we left that area, we climbed up a tower-like-structure for an even better view.

Gorgeous

Gorgeous

Just driving down through downtown Buffalo was a really cool experience because of all of the stunning architecture that decorated the city.

Mr. and Mrs. Rosner then announced it was time for dinner number two… “beef on wecks.” We drive to a pub to try this signature Buffalo sandwich. It consisted of roast beef, on a rye roll with LOTS of thick pieces of salt on top of it. People usually put horse radish or au jour on it… I opted to go with the horse radish (which I think had some mustard mixed in with it). Having already eaten dinner, I was only able to muscle down half of the sandwich. Boy, our stomachs were certainly getting quite the work out!

Beef on Weck

Beef on Weck

Before we head back to the Rosner’s to go to bed, we went to a little convenience store so I could buy a lottery ticket (at the request of my mom… she thinks I’m lucky… and she is right!). There we met a really nutty Buffalonian who we chatted with. She ended up wanting to take a picture with Veronica when she found out Veronica was a beauty queen…and of course Veronica obliged. It was pretty silly.

The hospitality that the Rosner’s gave us was remarkable. I felt like they took us in as though we were their own. They drove us everywhere, gave us a place to stay, and fed us EVERYTHING… they even got up extra early to make us fresh waffles for breakfast before we left for the airport. As we were departing, we told the Rosner’s that they should come to Richmond, so we could return the favor. I really hope they do!

……

Veronica and I felt and still feel so grateful for the Rosner’s, and everyone else who has helped us with this journey. We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives.

Right place, right time

Right place, right time

So I held back in the last post because I wanted to make sure that things were finalized…

Remember how I mentioned how V and I met Luly Yang, and how she invited Veronica and I to come to her fashion show? Well… she did more than that… she invited us to be CLIENT MODELS at the show! MODELING LULY YANG- YES!!!

This fashion show is raising money for Camp Korey… a camp that is for terminally ill children. I went to a camp like this called Camp Fantastic. The rich and famous of Seattle generally comes to her shows… designers, Seahawk members, maybe even Peter Nordstom? (Tickets are $500).

So we will fly from St. Croix on October 8 back to Seattle. The show is the 9th, and we will fly home to Richmond the 10th.

Sleep when you’re dead, right? :)

Hip-Hip! JORGE!!!!!!!!!

Hip-Hip! JORGE!!!!!!!!!

This morning I started my day with another run on the “hill.” This time Veronica joined me, and she agreed that the views made the burn worth it!

Shortly after thatm, Veronica and I boogied out of Jorge’s, and headed downtown on our own. We couldn’t find the bus stop, so I found some random cab who happened to be on the side of the road lurking (it was fate!)… he gave us the cheapest cab ride we’ve had this entire trip because we “are beautiful girls!” Score!

Downtown Seattle is filled with tons of typical city stuff, and it is overflowing with my personal favorite- COFFEE SHOPS. This city runs on caffeine as much as I do! We strolled in and out of stores (one of them being Starbucks, of course), until we ended up at Luly Yang’s

And then it begins…

Luly!

Luly's!

I blame Veronica 100% for exposing me to such an incredible designer. Yang’s creations consisted of stunning dresses, and her especially gorgeous couture gowns. She has a knack for taking classic concepts, and putting a unique/modern twist- but still making it wearable. Also, props to Yang for her eye for fabric, and color selection! Here are some of our favorites!

A very "Dana" dress. (I suppose "Dana" means "leggy." ;)

A young lady named Lisa was helping us. She did an amazing job listening, suggesting, and getting inside of our heads. It was easy to tell that Lisa truly loved her job; and it was such a pleasure working with her.

While we were trying on dresses, in walks in this tiny Asian woman. This lady reaches out her hand, and with a simple smile says, “Hi, I’m Luly.” Oh. my. GAWD!!!! Our hearts stopped beating. Could not breathe. Had to use a crane to get our jaws out of the ground. We finally managed to introduce ourselves and then we started talking to her about her designs, her ideas, etc. What an amazing experience! And to top it off… she invited us to her fashion show, October 9th! Very surreal!

After spending 2.5 hours hyperventilating in the store, we went to the Space Needle! We rode up the escalator right to the very top of the needle to eat a delicious (very late) lunch, at Sky City Restaurant. The thing that makes this restaurant unique (other than the fact it is on the top of the Space Needle), is that it rotates around slowly, so that by the time you finish your lunch, you have gotten a 360 degree view of the city, Mt. Rainier, Cascade Mountains, Lake Union, and Elliot Bay!

What a view!

What a view!

Lunch was mmm mmm good…. Fresh, warm rolls with LAVENDAR BUTTER- what a heavenly combination! I enjoyed a gigantic ahi tuna salad that was decorated with olives, asparagus, fresh green beans, artichokes, and champange-mustard dressing. Veronica opted for mac’n'cheese that had mass quantities of crab meat in it. Knowing that this lunch was a treat, we decided we should splurge and get a dessert… we deliberated between two of the choices until we finally caved and got them both. They were so worth it!

After gaining approximately 30 lbs. in under 1 hour, we went walking around (you know, to “walk it off”) until we decided we should find a way to check out the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat.

I truly have a talent for finding the CRAZIEST cab drivers in this country! First, we were talking to a cabbie that told us “you should know where that is!” After hearing that, I went to a cab that had just pulled up and asked him if he knew where the infamous houseboat was. He said yes…

Boy, did he fool us!

“Why don’t you sleep in Seattle?” “You don’t sleep?” “No Seattle sleep?” “No sleep boat?” “Sleepless boat?” All the while he was cackling with laughter… it was reminiscent of Rafiki, from the Lion King. This joker was not sober. Once we saw an area that looked like it could be close to our destination we got out of the cab, and somehow managed to find the boat.

Finding our way back to Jorge’s was a bit of a challenge, but we made it back! Now we are relaxing (and being spoiled by Jorge with pizza bites, diet coke, hummus, etc.!), and prepping for our next city: New York.

Seattle… another city I’ve fallen in love with!

Seatown- Day One

Green. Mountains. More green! More mountains!

Seattle is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been.

Veronica and I are staying with her fraternity brother, Jorge.

This morning I got up, and started the beautiful day (low 70s) wanting to go for a run. Jorge said there was a pretty good “hill” right near his complex. Perfect! Right?!

This “hill” that Jorge described was what we Virginians would call a MOUNTAIN. But being the trooper that I am, I went all the way down and all the way back up this so-called-hill. But despite the physical agony, I was treated to one of the most scenic runs of my life.

After my run we all got ready to tour Seattle, with Jorge being our guide. He first took us to Pike Place Market, which is right along the water in downtown Seattle. What an awesome place to be. They had so many different street vendors with fresh fruits, veggies, and of course- FISH! Pike Place is known for their fresh fish, and for the guys who prep, wrap, and THROW THE FISH! It was so much fun to watch! There were tons of people, samples, and it was impossible to leave empty handed!

After seeing that waterfall, I knew I was going to have to plan another trip to Seattle to really explore, and experience the outdoor activities/adventures this place has to offer!

Vegas – “Play to Win”

Vegas – “Play to Win”

Fortunalitly, the Rohrmoser family has a time share at The Wyndham that Veronica and I got to use. The Wyndham earned high marks in my book for their fantastic facility, and their outstanding customer service. The employees gave off the impression that they really enjoyed working there, and getting to know their visitors.

Due to the change in time zones, I woke up pretty early while we were there, and it was kind of nice because that gave me the perfect opportunity to hit the gym. The fitness center was great and it overlooked The Wyndham’s pool areas outside. I am determined to work out throughout this entire trip, I simply refuse to let my hard work go to waste.

Shopping in Vegas was an experience in itself! They had all of my food groups: Christian Loubouttin, Fendi, Gucci, Chanel, Dior, McQueen, Hermes, etc. It was so fun to go into some of my favorite designers stores and see their latest collections, and to see if I recognized anything I’ve modeled before. It took more than a little will power to not get the black Fendi heels with the orange straps that I fell in love with!

Speaking of shopping! Participating in the Miss America Organization, Veronica is always on the prowl for good dresses and gowns for the pageants she competes in. That led us into Veroncia’s favorite designer store, Oscar de la Renta. I have never been so blown away by clothing in my life. You can tell that Oscar puts a lot of thought in the placement of the details on his garments. For instance, this asymetrical dress had intricate stitching making this dress ridiculously flattering, and made it “work.” This one was one of my favorites! His new collection has some incredible pieces. Thumbs up Oscar!

Not only is the shopping good in Vegas, but so is the food! We went to a tiny cafe Sugar and Spice (The Wynn), and I devoured yummy fish tacos- they were so stinking good… a definite favorite.

Yummy lunch!

We got tickets to see Cirque del Solei’s “Zumanity,” on Friday night. As we entered the venue some of the actors were mingling (in full character) with the show goers. One of the characters ended up grabbing my hair, smelling it, and then proceeded to grunt. I knew at that point this was going to be unlike anything theatrical performance I’ve ever seen.

A lovely drag queen hosted the show; and I feel weird saying this, but she, he?, she?, whatever, had very nice legs! The shows theme was everything sexual. The way the actors portrayed certain “actions,” were done so creatively. The actors displayed some of the best athleticism I’ve ever seen… they were dancers, gymnasts, athletes, and incredible performers. The music and singing was live, and complimented the show. Seeing “Zumanity,” was the best thing I did here. I would recommend all Vegas goers to see this show… just not with your parents

While we were strolling the strip on one of the afternoons, we were stopped and invited to be VIP guests at the nightclub, Tao. The best way to party in Vegas is definitely VIP- open bar, no lines, and private rooms! The decor gave off a cool Asian feel with dark woods, candles, and Buddha’s everywhere! The bartenders were the fastest drink makers I’ve ever seen! Veronica and I made a few friends from California that we might try to hang out with when we make it over there in a couple weeks. It was a good time!

We also stayed a night in Paris. I absolutely loved this hotel! With the architecture and decorations, it makes you feel like you are walking the streets as soon as you walk through the doors. Even the color schemes in the bathroom fit the theme. Our room was on the 24 floor and it overlooked The Bellagio fountains. I LOVED watching the fountains! It was so cool to have front row seats.

The view from Paris! Amazing!

Gambling! Despite my last minute efforts of googling “how to gamble,” I was not very good at any of the games that require strategy. But the games that only require luck (slot machines, roulette, etc.), I came out in the positive! `

While out gambling, one of the floor managers started talking to me and asked where I was from/what school I went to/etc. I told him I graduated JMU (go dukes!) with a Marketing degree. He began to talk to me about some of marketing positions available. He pretty much offered to give me an on the spot interview/job. I declined. I am not sure if I could handle the craziness of Vegas on a full time basis.

Vegas was a lot of fun. I definitely want to come back here again, especially now that I know a few tricks on how to get into things for free/VIP/free hotels, etc. Let me know if you are interested. :)

See you in Seattle!
